Dr Dola Oluteye leads the Africa Maritime Decarbonisation Programmes in the Shipping & Oceans Research Group at the UCL’s Energy Institute, where she is a Senior Research Fellow in Energy and Transport Policy. Holding a PhD in Environmental Design and Engineering, she serves as Principal Investigator for the LEAP and Africa-ORCA projects, designed to support African Member States at the United Nations International Maritime Organisation (UN-IMO) as International Shipping transitions to renewable fuels. Drawing on more than 25 years’ experience in engineering, construction project management, consultancy and environmental design, Dola brings a practitioner’s eye to academic research. A constructivist grounded theorist with a critical-realist philosophy, she roots her work in data-driven, evidence-based policymaking across the marine and blue economy. Her current focus on ports and the wider blue economy examines how the shift to renewable energy sources can catalyse Africa’s growth while ensuring the transition is just and equitable. Dola co-leads the UK chapter of Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE), co-chairs the Professional African Technical and Network Advisory (PATNA) Group and is a trained coach and mentor. She also serves as board adviser. Away from work she enjoys swimming, family time and nature documentaries.
