Professor Abdelkhalak El Hami is a Distinguished Professor (Exceptional Class 2) at INSA Rouen. He holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences from the University of Franche-Comté, France (1992), and obtained his Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR) in 2000. He has been a University Professor at INSA Rouen since September 2000.
Currently, Professor El Hami serves as the Deputy Director of the Normandy Mechanics Laboratory and holds the Chair of Mechanics at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) in Normandy. He previously served as Director of the Mechanical Engineering Program at INSA Rouen.
His research focuses on reliability-based optimization of systems, with a particular emphasis on mechanical and mechatronic systems. He leads and coordinates a research team within the laboratory. Over his career, he has supervised 59 PhD theses, including 35 joint supervisions with countries such as Morocco, China, Norway, Sweden, Brazil, Algeria, Tunisia, and Lebanon.
He has authored more than 520 publications, including over 100 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, and has written over 85 books covering topics in mechanics, mathematics, and the reliability of multiphysical systems.
Professor El Hami has led numerous industrial research projects in collaboration with major companies such as PSA, Thales, EADS, Airbus, Alstom, Renault, Alstom Transport, Dassault, Knorr-Bremse, Thales, and Valeo. These projects have collectively secured nearly €40 million in funding.
He is the French coordinator for three integrated international projects with Morocco (PHC Volubilis/Toubkal), and one with Brazil (ALBAN program), and serves as the Normandy regional correspondent. He also works as a management and quality controller for the European TEMPUS MEDA I-crea project, which focuses on innovation and responsiveness, and is responsible for several European educational initiatives.
Professor El Hami has spent an average of four years abroad in various capacities, including visiting professorships, expert missions, and conferences in countries such as Brazil, Morocco, the USA, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, Romania, Algeria, and across Europe.
He is Editor-in-Chief of five book series published by Elsevier, Wiley & Sons, ISTE, and Expert, and is a member of evaluation committees for institutions such as ANR, BPI-France, PHC Utique, and the Maghreb region. He also serves as an auditor for European projects.
He is currently the Chair of Mechanics at the CNAM in Normandy.
